Indra Russell
Indra began her first dance classes at 3 years old in her hometown of Fort Smith, Arkansas. There, she danced and performed throughout high school with two dance schools and pre-professional companies. During the summer months, Indra furthered her training at intensives with notable ballet greats such as David Howard, Moscelyne Larkin, and William Martin-Viscount, and with the dance faculty of TCU in Fort Worth, TX. She also had the opportunity to study at prestigious Los Angeles-based studios under master teachers including; Doug Caldwell, Mia Michaels, Charlie McGowan, Michael Rooney, and Joe Tremaine.
Indra received a BFA in Dance from Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri where she furthered her training and understanding of pedagogy and dance management. During college Indra gained advanced training in Martha Graham modern dance technique and had many performance opportunities in theater and dance productions.
Indra resides in St. Louis with her husband Tait, and now her favorite role is that of “mom” to her children Zoe and Flynn. Indra recently completed a 200-hour training program to become a Registered Yoga Teacher. She enjoys creating dynamic flows and deep restorative sequences set to curated playlists that enhance the unique experience of each practice.
Through the years, Indra has taught group and private lessons in ballet, jazz, tap, and modern dance, and has choreographed for a number of community dance and musical theater productions. She is thrilled to be back in the dance studio at the Dance Center of Kirkwood. In Indra’s classes, you can expect a strong technical foundation and an emphasis on musicality and performance.
